Union Station Brewery – Providence, RI

So, did you watch the Oscars? I didn’t! I heard the movie about being in movies won a bunch. Hollywood sure loves to pat itself on the back, eh? Good thing they took that important best movie one away from them in the most awkward way possible and gave it to the movie with Cottonmouth in it! In case you’re not a Marvel dork like me, Mahershala Ali plays the villain “Cottonmouth” in Luke Cage and that’s all I knew him from. I know, I’m super cultured. Deadpool was my favorite movie last year and not a single award! Sure everyone thought La La Land and Moonlight were the bees knees, but I hear both were severely lacking in the all important “dick joke” category. But you know what they say, different strokes…

OK, enough of the amazing Oscar commentary and onto the beer!

Cambridge Brewing Co. – Cambridge, MA

Sunday was really a day that ended up being a day where original brew plans failed. Luckily both times I was able to switch on the fly and everything worked out. The morning was spent dominating the ping-pong table at Revival, and at night I got to make a first time visit to Cambridge Brewing Company. Pro tip for all of you out there, don’t forget that if you have a Monday off, there are probably a lot of others that do too. And they are going to want to go out and drink as well. Maybe try to plan your night accordingly unlike certain beer bloggers.

Anywho, let’s get to it…

Revival Brewing Co. – Cranston, RI

This weekend I got a little redemption. After a weekend were I was promised brunch foods and soundly disappointed, there was an itch to scratch. So when I found out my originally planned destination wasn’t open on Sundays, the executive decision was made to head down to Brutopia, home of Revival Brewing Co. in Cranston. Having come to Revival in the past, I knew eating at the restaurant was a must and luckily for us, they serve brunch on Sundays! You really don’t know how much you want brunch nachos until you are told there are brunch nachos. No disappointment with the food this Sunday!

But this is a beer blog, so onto why you’re really here!

 

Crooked Current Brewery – Pawtucket, RI

 

I can’t lie, in my early to mid 20’s I hated Rhode Island. Every time I went to a bar in the Providence area, there seemed to be this snotty hipster vibe that made me wish explosive bowel issues on all of its flannel shirted inhabitants. Yea, it was that bad. As time has gone by and I’ve explored more, there are now more places that I enjoy in Rhode Island than don’t. Either I was going to the wrong places (likely), the scene down there has chilled out a bit (it’s possible), or I have grown up a bit (unlikely, although I will toss on a flannel shirt on the rare occasion).

With that trip down memory lane outta the way, I found myself in the lovely city of Pawtucket this past weekend at the self-proclaimed, and most likely accurate, “smallest brewery in the smallest state” Crooked Current. Look for the “Brewery” sandwich-board sign on the side of the road, or you may miss it!

Bone Up Brewing – Everett, MA

So…how about that game, eh? If you can say that you thought the Pats were going to win that game, I call bullshit. Just another astounding credit to the Patriots organization.

Now that the roller coaster of this past Super Bowl weekend is over, I finally have some time to pay homage to one of the breweries I frequent the most. It’s one that is fast gaining popularity, and rightfully so, Bone Up Brewing! So, let’s dig in…

Schilling Beer Co. – Littleton, NH

On our trip to NH, I had my sights set on visiting only one brewery. Woodstock Inn was meant to be my one concession on what was otherwise going to be a more romantic weekend. Luckily, I know the way to my ladies heart is through food, and when you tell her there’s a brewery on the drive up that also serves a chicken maple bacon pizza, it’s game on! With that being said we found our way to Schilling Beer Co. in Littleton. Also, big thank you to Renee from Brew NH for the suggestion!

Woodstock Inn Brewery – North Woodstock, NH

For someone who doesn’t ski or snowboard, spending some time in the White Mountains during the winter might not seem worth the trouble. Not going to lie, the wall of white out conditions I hit driving through Franconia Notch Parkway had me wondering that myself. But, there were breweries to visit (and an ice castle to explore), so weather be damned, we got to our hotel and had ourselves a ski town weekend.
